Community Programs Coordinator

Provides coordination, oversight and collaborative delivery of the Community Support Program and other assigned community engagement programs. Provides effective support and collaborative delivery of the Volunteer Program and special events.

Reports to: Executive Director

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Community Support Program, (including all food security initiatives and front desk operations), BC Housing Community Connections, Neighbourhood Small Grants Program and acts as a liaison for the My Great Neighbourhood Grants

  • Provides training and supervision of staff and volunteers in the above-mentioned programs, including scheduling, providing feedback and appreciation, and covering shifts as required

  • Responds to community requests for support and short-term solutions

  • Collaboratively contributes to the development, planning, delivery, and assessment of special events for the community. Responsible for recruitment and coordination of special event volunteers

  • Grant writing and liaising to expand the community programs and capacity of the organization

  • Maintains agency website, newsletter, and social media, and orients staff and volunteers to use

  • Responds to general inquiries by phone and in person, regarding Quadra Village Community Centre, the Neighbourhood Gym, and other agency related activities

  • Identifies volunteer needs of the organization and maintains the Volunteer Program through recruitment and retention

  • Develops, administers, and reviews goals, policies, and procedures which guide the community programs and services, and reflect the mission and overall values of the organization

  • Identifies promising practices and appropriate standards for the community programs and implements accordingly 

  • Organizes and participates in staff and volunteer recognition programs

  • Builds individual and community capacity through work and volunteer experience

  • Maintains budgets required for the community programs or assigned events

  • Evaluates community programs and implements necessary improvements

  • Maintains accurate records and provides regular verbal and written activity and statistical reports regarding community programs and volunteer participation

  • Shares in the work of maintaining a safe and welcoming neighbourhood centre

  • Is familiar with and implements QVCC’s policies, procedures, and practices

  • Assists with other related duties when required and approved by the Executive Director


Qualifications:

  • Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Community Development, Communication, Recreation, Staff or Volunteer Management is an asset

  • Suicide Intervention, Mental Health First Aid, De-escalation, Anti-Racism, First Aid, and Food Safe trainings are assets

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing

  • Experience coordinating staff, volunteers, community groups and/or programs

  • Demonstrated ability in assisting people contending with multiple barriers

  • Ability to work independently to prioritise tasks and create innovative solutions

  • Proficient in basic computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphic design software, internet usage, and social media

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • Record keeping skills (for reporting, Human Resources and marketing)

  • Knowledge of local social service resources and food systems is an asset

  • Experience with group facilitation, event planning, and grant writing are assets

  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required


Hours of Work and Other Contract Terms:

Hours of Work:

  • This position is to cover a leave of absence of 3-4 months

  • 37.5 hours per week

  • Schedule built around the Community Support Program, community development projects and events, and Centre requirements

Benefits and Remuneration:

  • $29.78 per hour

  • Additional 6% vacation pay, paid out each pay period

  • Immediate enrolment in the Employee & Family Assistance Program

  • Paid training and development applicable to role
